My objective in our time and work together is to meet you where you are and offer a safe, compassionate, and encouraging space to do the courageous work of seeking healing, self-understanding, and restoration. Services will be tailored to your goals and objectives for our time together while always built on the foundational belief that you, like every person, has unique purpose and value and are worthy of love and meaningful relationships with yourself and others. As people we are not meant to move through life alone; healing and growth happens in relationship, and I am honored to join and support you on your journey.
Individual Therapy
I work with individuals experiencing/who have experienced:
- Depression
- Trauma/PTSD, C-PTSD
- Sex and Labor Trafficking
- Childhood Abuse and Neglect: Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse and Emotional Abuse
- Religious Abuse
- Chronic Pain
- Addiction
- Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence
- Relationship Difficulties
- Spirituality
- Stress Management
- Panic Attacks and Anxiety
- Suicidal Ideation and Self-Harm Behaviors
Individuals are always welcome to invite family members, partners, roommates, etc. to session as support people or plan for a session where the focus is holding a safe space to connect in a different way than usually happens in the outside world. The focus on this style session is not on couples or family therapy, but to help the individual who is in therapy. Some clients have found it helpful to set-up a resource session (see below), where their therapy is not discussed, but general information and psychoeducation is provided, this too is an option.
Family & Couples Therapy
I am trained in structural family therapy and the approach of this therapy is to view the family as a system, identifying strengths, weaknesses, roles, stuck points, (un)healthy/(un)helpful dynamics, etc. and work to strengthen the whole family system as well as each individual within it. In family/couples therapy I will help;
- Families/Couples come together when one individual is experiencing depression, panic attacks, and anxiety or another mental health difficulty
- Families/Couples gather to understand chronic pain and ways to support their loved one in feeling better and not losing hope
- Families/Couples break cycles of generational trauma and learned abusive and neglectful behaviors
- Families/Couples navigate life transitions and use times of transitions to strengthen connections and closeness with each other.
- Families/Couples find healthy ways to relate and interact with one another in the present day as well as heal from past pains and betrayals that continue to dictate the relationship
- Families/Couples identify unspoken relational contracts and expectations and bring those into a conscious level to see if they are serving the family/couple as a whole and if not, identify changes that can be made and tools on how to get there.
Resource Sessions
Though I love working with all my clients, resource sessions have a special place in my heart because they were not my idea, they were my clients. So often I would be in session and my client would say two things; “I wish I knew this stuff sooner” quickly followed by “I wish my (partner/mom/roommate/etc.) understood too.” I think this is for two reasons; (1) to be seen by the people we love most in the world is a deeply fulfilling human experience and so often small misunderstandings and miscommunication can be the spark for seemingly uncrossable divides, and (2) our default mode of thinking is relational. So as soon as we take in information that feels healing and validating we immediately want to offer it to those we love and care about most. So, we created resource sessions. In resource sessions, I seek to offer in a digestible and approachable way, information about the neuroscience of the brain-body connection, how it affects health, behavior and relationships starting from whatever question/issue you come in with. Though resource sessions are available for anyone who would like to learn about the mind-body connection and walk away with tools, readings and/or practical ways to implement it immediately, they began as an individual session with a support person of an ongoing client. In this style resource session, the clients personal information and anything shared in their therapy session is protected and not discussed, the resource session focuses solely on general information that the support person can take back to their own lives and the relationship with the client. Additionally, information discussed in resource sessions will not be shared with the ongoing clients as they are also protected by confidentiality.
Intensives
Intensives have been a great alternative to traditional weekly therapy for many individuals, couples, and families. Intensives are longer sessions, typically 3 hours, that can be scheduled as needed or with a month(s) break in between to offer plenty of opportunity for people to put into daily practice the outcomes of an intensive session or can be used in conjunction with weekly therapy to offer additional space for deeper processing, or a mix of the two! With less frequent meetings and a longer session time frame, Intensives are perfect for those who want professional attention, support, and structure and to leave with tailored tools to confidently put into practice and move one to the next step in their personal healing journey. With AI answering more mental health questions than ever and the self-help industry encouraging health while placing unrealistic expectations on individuals to heal themselves, intensive sessions are a place to filter out whats relevant to you, receive personalized attention and support, and address the blocks that are keeping you stuck.
Professional Consultation
I have over 10 years experience working with survivors of interpersonal trauma in various work environments including chronic pain clinics, domestic violence shelters, outpatient treatment centers, and most recently/currently in a private practice setting. I have completed a multitude of trainings to expand my knowledge and understanding of trauma and its impacts on a person, their wellbeing and perspectives, and their relationships as well as to hone in on effective clinical interventions to address such ruptures.
Consultation and peer collaboration is an invaluable aspect of mental health treatment that many of us lose once we enter into a private practice setting. Not only is it beneficial for our clients to know they have a team of support behind them in their treatment, but it is essential for us as clinicians to dismiss the expectation that we need to know it all and carry the load of assisting others in their healing on our own. So, should you find yourself stuck and needing a knowledgeable external perspective, or desire ongoing support to increase clinical skills and deepen understanding of how trauma and un-repaired ruptures have drastic effects on all aspects of one’s health, and how we can always get back on track, I would be honored to serve as a consult.
